John Ryland <John.Ryland@mail.sscoop.com>: A3 2.0 into 78 Scirocco

Fun . . .

I'm planning to do this to my 1982 - this is the plan:

Use Short block from A3 2.0 (10:1 etc.)
Use Hydraulic Big Valve head from an early CIS 10:01 block.
Knock sensor ignition from same era machine.
Use existing Intake manifold/fuel injection.
Diesel twin manifold into TT downpipe - cat - TT exhaust (2.0" SS)

This should work - details I have not worked out include the fact (i
hear) that the new block is 15mm taller - will this be a prob . . . ????
And will all the components mentioned above bolt on (including things
like warmup regulator, etc. from my '82 CIS)

I've got a year or so to think about it - let me know what your plan is.

I'm planning to build my third early Scirocco with an A3 2.0 from
Bugworld. Anyone out there done this yet? Sounds like a good
deal-engine, harness, ecu, cooling, A/C for around $1800 shipped to
Richmond, VA. Recipient will likely be a 78. Anyone think this is a bad
idea for the money involved? I plan to do the swap myself (did a 1.8
transplant into a '77 not long ago, but bypassed computer stuff. This
sounds more complicated.)
