my scirocco is dying!

Help, anyone!,

I got this address from someone who helped me once with my 1987 scirocco
16V. Hopefuly one of you guys can help me because I think I really messed
up this time!

Briefly stated, The car would not start (the coil checks, the
distributor cap and rotor checks, spark and spark plugs check!) and so I
messed around with the car to the point where I opened up the fuel
distributor assembly (the one that sits atop the air filter box) because I
noticed that it's plunger is pushing down on the air flow plate keeping it
slightly open. I thought this was the reason why the car would not start.
The plunger would not release pressure and it takes some effort to push it
back in. I have to open up the hose - bolt junction going to the fuel
regulator(?) to release the pressure. One more thing I noticed, if I open
up the bolts on top of the fuel distributor (the ones that supply the
injectors), the #3 bolt does not squirt gas while the other three does. I
conclude then that their is no gas going to the #3 injector.
Is it wise to open up the fuel distributor to try to clean it up? I'm just
thinking that something is blocking something inside. Or if I'm totally out
of track, please someone tell me!!!! Any, I mean 'all' suggestions will be
tried. Thanks in advance.
