Did you check the fluid as suggested by several here?  If so, what 
did you find and if you added fluid, what was the result?  We need 
this info to try to answer this question.

Yes, I recently paid $600 to have mine completely rebuilt (sweet 
price, most estimates were $900-$1200).  This does not include the 
labor to remove/replace trans in car.
