I had a similar problem in my '81 S.  The problem went away when I cleaned
the contacts to the fuel pump.  I was poking around there in general so I
might have done something else which solved the problem but I always
assumed it was the connection.  Dunno why it only happened after running
the car for awhile though.  Does the pump get warm and resistance go up?
Oh well, just my couple of pennies, b-----------
