I've been sitting in the back reading all this lovely scirocco mail and
just inhaling all the farfregnugen (sp?) and finaly the above addressed
enough of what I just picked up to toss this out:

My new '80 scirocco-S is not on the road yet (number four, I do LOVE the
scirocco I) and my wife needed a car to drive, (her 240Z having carb
balancing problems. BTW the Z is currently for sale.) annnnyways we go
looking at (bear with me) toyota celicas and MR2s. She learned to drive
on a celica and one has to admit these are both niftly little coups.
Well the celica all-trac turbo was just beyond our means and I wanted to
go home when we passed this cute little black Scirocco II up on a
display at a little used car lot.
Not a big fan of the overweight scirocco II and not seeing the Fuba
antenna to signify a 16V I said "whatever" and we stopped to check it
out.  we found;

-1986 VW Scirocco
-mint interior (No flaws)
-near perfect paint (few chips leading edge of hood)
-16V engine shiny in the engine bay (looking VERY stock install)
-16V suspention (stock front/rear antisway and lower strut tie)
-8v brakes (just like the '82-'85 8V's)
-large spoiler
-single rear squirter on upper right of back hatch
-13" rims (an uncommon rim from my looking , seen maybe two cabriolet
and a jetta with same, has 7 lg spokes w/pop off plastic cover over the
lug bolts)
-16V emblem on glove box ONLY

we perchsased scirocco number FIVE
(i truly wish i had them all currently....)

we paid around $3,400 from the asked $4,200. a very friendly and nice
dealership (one man operation) never had such a good time at a
dealership in fact. south end motor sales in longmont CO for a
plug..."Vinny"-owner

so, my brother in law who sold VW's from around '82-'90 said he's never
seen anything like it... Bastard car? neither of us found any evidence
to support modifications. I do have most records of its four other
owners from the midwest out to Colorado.
any others out there?

-czebrata

p.s. now i love the scirocco II almost as much as the scirocco I.
