[OT] where were you 9/11?
A little late but here's mine. I was on my way to a funeral for a friend.
He'd been stabbed 26 times. Actually it was the Wake. The funeral wasn't
for another two days but I wasn't going to go to that. He was caught in the
wrong place at the wrong time and talking to the wrong people about drugs.
I got home just in time to see the second plane hit sometime just before 9am
I think. Toronto time is the same as NY. I knew it wasn't a movie but I
was drained from the wake and I still had to get to work for the afternoon
shift 3 till 11 so I gave up. I just felt like I couldn't handle that right
then and I went to bed after watching it for about an hour. I think it was
the shock. The after effect was felt even in Canada. For me it was the end
of my flying career for good as experienced high time pilots were being
released from their jobs and flooding the job market. Industry started a
slow dive and our economy suffered. I was laid off within two more months.
We watched quietly as the winter came and snowed on the recovery site. CP24
did a story on it about once a week, or at least that's how often I saw it,
all winter long. It was a bad day, and I remember being glad it wasn't me
in that tower and for this I am ashamed, but I suffered least of anyone.
