Idea for a new invention

Exactly... Being that speedtraps and the associated bacon is mobile by
nature it would depend on regular updates from users.

I was thinking a central server would a) track trends in the form of x
number of hits over a given period of time and b) based on
something--Caller ID area codes aren't always accurate it would give
you a 20 mile radius and color coded "hits" for different sightings
based on 15 minute intervals. Anything older than an hour without a
secondary hit would drop off automatically.

I was thinking some of the newer PDA's are GPS and bluetooth capable
if they aren't phones themselves. When you hit your button and it
could even be hard coded for something on PDA itself it would upload
contact information and download server info. This could be set for a
given period of time--update every 30 minutes or as you have your own
bacon sightings... Data from the server would then be overlayed on
your GPS display, showing danger zones.

Problem with CB's is that not everyone has one... and there's no
central point of control/reference and certainly no long term memory.

Radar detectors do what I am trying to do on a smaller scale this but
there are so many different ways to fool them. VA has radar detector
detectors say that three times really fast, but you can't pick up
lasers most of the time or when you do it's too late anyway, and you
certainly can't detect the plane above you with the stopwatch timing
you as you pass a line on the road... I do brake rapidly when I see
these in VA they are sneaky there. Timing from point A to B only
works accurately if the speed is relatively constant. It's usually a
quarter mile they time it and cross reference a chart. If you
decelerate suddenly it throws off the average.

Same thing with the airhoses across the highway. I usually try to
lock the ebrake on those. If you see one they are counting traffic.
Two detects speed. They look just like the old gas station bell
hoses. Usually they go over to a box in the weeds. The ones for
speed are so close together you can't react between them (inches) but
if you catch them right you can fuck them up. :)

My system relies on the mob/herd concept. You can't get us all
someone is going to see you. It would depend wholly on numbers of
users. If there are only two users in a given area then it won't be
very accurate, but a thousand in LA county would take the wind out of
their sails.

I guess two questions come to mind. If the officer is pacing traffic
this system is irrelevant. (pace cars pardon the pun fire radar down
at the road or use lasers to calibrate their speed which is--along
with their calibrated speedometer admissable as evidence for
speeding.) Now I am told that recently (last five years or so) the
instant on style radar systems can take the cruisers speed into
consideration and calculate speed when the subject is in oncoming
traffic. Of course the most accurate measurement is from behind or
perpendicular to the vector of travel.

Question one would it be legal?
Question two how do we keep the bad guys from using it?
