Callaway on the Operating table.

Here is a picture of the combustion chamber of a stock 1.8L head:

Valves on the 1.8 are 40mm intake and 33mm exhaust. The biggest that I've
ever heard installed are 42 and 34.
The stock 1.6 head had 34mm intake, 31mm exhaust. It's combustion chamber
also doesn't taper out towards the intake valve side like the 1.8. The sides
are generally parallel with a bulge for the spark plug.
It's possible to put the bigger valves in the 1.6 head, but bigger valve
seats would need to be pressed in which is a pretty big deal.
Your head may simply be a 1.8. Easiest thing to check is if the coolant
outlet is between cylinders 1 & 2 (1.6L) or 3 & 4 (1.8L).
I've personally never heard of a 26mm oil pump (26mm being the length of the
gears). A 30mm pump should be good for solid lifter head applications.
Get your camera and go back and take pictures!!! Cylinder head, turbo,
exhaust manifold.....
OK, well wait till the Slingblade dude isn't there!
