corrado seats, hatch leak, and lazyness

I'm back with pretty much more of the same. The car hasn't gone anywhere
and I'm at a point where I can leave it for later (which I'm getting
tired of doing) or get it going. I've applied for a summer job in Alaska
(3006 miles of highway between here and there) and am waiting for a call
back to see if I got it or not. I can fly there and rely on the 2.5 hour
shuttle ride to get from the lodge to Anchorage, or bring my own car.
Since I can't seem to get myself to do what needs to be done with it I'm
just going to pay to have most of it done.
First off the leak. It is in the rear end and the water seems to pool
under the hatch, sometimes in the back corner. There was some stuff that
held a lot of water that I realized was there so I took it out.
Hopefully the lack of moisture will keep the mold at bay in the mean
time. The local glass place will charge $75 to test the hatch. I just
went out and took a look (It rained all yesterday) and the water is on
the passenger side, and above the brake light where the hatch closes. So
is just getting the $45 hatch seal from vintage rubber a safe enough
bet? It will almost definitely rain or I can just hose it down after
installing it to check.
With the leak going unchecked for so long the passenger seat and
steering wheel have grown mold. I've tilexed and vinyl conditionered it
twice but since the driver seat isn't entirely bolted in (I haven't
looked underneath, but the whole seat wobbles) and I don't know if the
mold is just on the surface or not I figure I'll just replace both front
seats. I've looked and haven't had much luck finding corrado seats
online. I haven't tried local places yet but there is one or two VW
shops/wreaking yards around that seem to be able to get anything.
The springs, front axles, alignment, and possibly the hot (not standard)
ground wire going from the alternator to the negative terminal I'll pay
to have done. Assuming I get the job I'll need all of this done by the
end of April which shouldn't be a problem for a professional but I'll
take way too long doing it.
I posted about the electrical gremlin before but I can't seem to wrap my
head around what is supposed to be grounded where.
The issue with the springs is that I replaced the struts/shocks (at
least one was blown) and I can still bottom the car out by pushing down
with not too excessive force. So I figure worn out springs are what
destroyed the struts /shocks anyway. I can't seem to find any oem height
springs but I found these the h&r ones that I believe have been kicking
around the list the past couple days. If I changed the height of the car
at all I would want to go baja style (slight lift with larger tires),
not a low riding racer. But at this point I'm just trying to get it road
trip worthy.
