Let's start a retrospective thread

It sure seemed that way, and then I talked to another Rabbit GTI owner, that
ran into the same thing.

2 door Rabbits already seem prone for door ajar.

I got the multi-point Neuspeed rear stressbar for Mars, and I'm hoping it
won't have that issue. Plus it will have a rollbar which should help keep
the body rigid.

That's strange. So do you think the rear bar was transferring stresses to
the door frame and distorting it? I can't say I've noticed any changes in
my door frame.

Ok...

The reason I asked is, that I noticed that the driver's door started getting

difficult to shut all the way, after about a month of having the 2 point
rear bar on a Rabbit GTI.

I just don?t notice much difference and it gets in the way when you want to
haul stuff.

How come you don't like the rear stressbars?

Do agains:
84' engine swap (but anything would be better than the 1457cc 78' engine).
Dupont Imron for repainting. Painted on Champagne Edition II striping when
repainting. (easier to care for and no uneven fading and peeling like the
factory decals) Lightened flywheel. H4/H1 headlights and relays. Drake port
and polish. Drake re-curved distributor. Conversion to points-less ignition
system. Quaife differential. Upper and lower front stress bars. Air oil
cooler. Lot's of other small stuff.

Don't agains:
Rear stress bar.
Not much else on the don'ts since I tried to do the homework on stuff before
purchasing.

Yeah, to steal the term from another thread, retrospective it is.

Like what have you done that was good, or a waste of time/money? I'll start:
Engine swaps for more displacement: Very good! I was discussing with the boy
this morning that the only VeeDub in the driveway with the original engine
was the bug. So for my 8V? Going from the stock 1.6 to the high compression
1.8 with a few nice bolt ons: Hp increase from 66.6 to 97.7. Yeah, that was
worth it. And I'd say the same for the 2L 16V, but that was also a case of
non running to running, not like I had a good engine taken out.

Styling? Euro bumpers: SO worth it, saves weight too.
Lighting: Getting rid of the sealed beams... SO worth it..... So let's hear
it then, the list is WAY too slow.....what would you do again, and what
would you not bother with or avoid like the plague....
