Well, not real sure as I do not think I ever really got an accurate test.  I was constantly, CONSTANTLY screwing with the CIS-E, and some gas stations would not fill it up completely, ie. the shut-off would come earlier on some stations than others- but on the Cincy trip, which was one of the few tanks where I did not fiddle with anything,  I got about 32 MPG on the way back.  That's with a 4k tranny, stock gears going about 70 MPH.  ;)

Think about it this way...... I have been giving the 1.7 ltr as much of a work out as I can. Where is the red line on merging? OH it really is
 a red line between shifting....... Anyhow should I say more 1.7? Hell the 1.6 is a better version.
