[OT] 1990 Jetta Injector Seals Replacement - I Smell Gas!

I had to drive it again since my post; my God the fumes were so bad I
though I was going to pass out. On my lunch break I took another look
under the hood to see how bad it could be leaking. The breather (not
sure what it's called) located on top of the valve cover had the rubber
grommet completely torn and was no longer attached to the valve cover.
The valve cover screen was completely exposed. Stopped by the dealership
and for 3 bucks replaced the grommet...

Yeah, that fixed it... ;-)

You're right about the seal though. I plan on doing an engine swap soon,
I'll fix it then.

I forget from not having Digifant in my hand recently
but-

It sounds like you should sorce a replacment for the
plastic spacer you broke.

in the case of cylinder pressure and all I belive you
are not fully sealed.

Short term, likley no problem. 
Long term, it can't be good to run unbalanced like
that.
