The $125.38 switch

Ok, so I wasnt sanding ALL day.... It was high 90's with 100% humidity and UNBEARABLE in the sectioned off garage where I am working.
So I went to Harborfright to get a long sander and possibly another HVLP gun for primer. Seems a gun with a 1.4 nozzle is too small for the epoxy primer.
Bought the 17" sander, but no gun.... Damn.

Remember the question I had about the current needed for the fuel pump?

On 890 (a really busy rd at 12 noon) the car just died. No fuel, no friendly little buzz when the key was turned. Traffic whizzing by at 65 (a 55 zone.... go figure) with me kneeling under the dash to check fuzes. A bit afraid, I push started the car to roll and coasted down hill off the ramp to the gas station.

No tools in the car, not a screwdriver or a lenght of wire. Damn it. I just HAD to clean the car.... I called Daun to find out just which fuze was for the FP. Nope, not that one. Its good.... Damn.... So I called a tow truck, $65 to lift, $3 per mile.... (The driver OWNED one in high school) and he neatly deposited the car in the drive, got paid and left.

I went back out after a shower (man I was soaked) pulled the neat little by pass I built with fuse and switch, and inserted a 5" chunk of wire. Damn it all if the fuel pump didn't start up.

The switch, that I got from Advance Auto, supposedly rated at 30A had failed. 2 lessons here folks and newbies.

1) Carry a Phillips head and a common screwdriver. A 10, 13 and 14 mm open end wrenches, a pair of pliers, a chunk of wire AND a multimeter with you at ALL times. With those you could McGyver your self home and avoid the tow truck man. (This one was cute, but married)

2) DONT buy mission critical components from AA's or Walmarts. Like Food, toothpaste and toys, its made in China, get the right parts.

MORE scirocco content:
Victor is in the garage, the front end and the rear have been stripped, DS door and the hood are off. Today, the PS door and trunk lid come off, and the glass comes out.
The hood from the sand matallic 81 is almost ready, bondo'd and primered, the trunk lid is next, then the doors. One panel at a time.
Now I know why they charge sooo much to strip and paint a car. Man this sucks, but the 8*10 pic next to my cesk of how I want the car to look keeps me going. Ohhh and the fear of having to drive a KIA to Cincy....

Shower time and back to Victor....
