Strut Time - suggestions? Koni vs Bilstien vs Bilstein

I'll correct myself, I thought it was HD's for some reason.

I have a set of Passat B3 springs, that you could cut if you had to.
They made the RIP Passat sit slammed...

I can measure the width of the coil wire, if you want.

Yes, lowering springs will help, and the good news is that HD's work fine
with 1.5" lowering springs.

-Just- got done putting BIlstein Sports on the front of my Caddy. It raised
the front. *grimace* And I -hate- the way it looks. What can one do? If
they raise the height of the car, then lowering springs won't help, will it?
What about using a pair of lowering spring caps? IIRC, there is but only
one sort? (IOW, you can't get a pair with a monstrous drop, right?

However, I should add that the way it drives is -superb-.

Are you sure that Bilstein HD's will raise the front end that much? If the
valving is really the same between the HD's and Sports, I'd be leaning
toward the HD's, but I'm not so sure I want to do that if it will raise the
front of the car any more than it is now.

BTW - pics of last weekend's autocross are up here:

Nate and his new/used GLX are on pages 1 and 3. Don and I are on pages 7, 8,
13, and 16.

My understanding, although not from personal experience, is that the
valving between the Bilstein HD and Sport is the same, but the shock travel
is different to accomodate either a close to stock ride height or a lowered
right height.
What I do know is the Bilsteins will raise the front of your car quite a
bit, probably about 1/2", due to the internal gas pressure and the shear
diameter of the shock rod on the front which is virtually the diameter of
the shock body. Course over time the gas pressure will leak out and the
front will lower, but for the short term you'll probably want to do
something to lower the front somewhat.
Any new gas shock will raise your car somewhat so be ready for that, but the

front Bilstein is a different case.
I have ancient Konis on one of my cars and they still seem to perform pretty

well although I haven't autocrossed for years. What is good about the Konis
is you can adjust (at least the fronts without removal) the bump rebound
easily presumably tightening your car somewhat for autocrossing then
readjust for the drive home.
Also, again from what I've heard mostly on the Yahoo VW autocross group, any

of these shocks can be rebuilt or valving changed for a reasonable cost at
least in light of the cost of their original purchase.
