Polishing SS?

I put a show polish on my whole exhaust on my old 2.0 16V rabbit.

a bench grinder with polishing wheels, and the right compounds got that
thing looking super shiny, only to get dirty on the wet road when i left the
shop.

even rubbing and polishing compund will shine up a smooth surface
