Header Q

Hello all. Time for exhaust upgrades. This '88 16v has a stock exhaust. I'm looking for something slightly more aggressive than the exhaust on the car I just sold, which was stock up front and TT with Dynomax from the cat back. Probably 2.25".

I've looked through the archives (Gasp!) and found that Autotech and TT headers are generally preferred, but recnetly there has been at least one complaint of major quality issues with the TT.

In a perfect world I would have a nice 4-2-1 header with a flex pipe at the end using V-band clamps to a removable "No Cat" section, in case I ever were forced to use a cat, with either 2.25 on the way back - with a resonator. TT's exhaust part number is 252.327B.

I've heard Peter mention a TT 4-2-1, a.k.a. Tri-y header, but I don't see one in their catalog. Anybody know where to find it?

If I get the Autotech one, I'd rather put in a few reinforcements between the pipes, some mounts for a heat shield, etc. Doing so would ruin the ceramic coating, so I'd basically screw the whole thing up. Doesn't sound pretty. Also, lack of a flex-pipe is probably going to eventually weaken the system, so putting that in would likely make another mess.

Somebody tell me where I'm wrong or make some good suggestions here.

Can any local exhaust shop sell me stainless bends and straights in 2.25 or 2.5? Maybe I just need to dive in and make my own, but it is really hard to find time to do that sort of thing lately.

BH
