OT: Other cars...anyone driven these?

Bear in mind, while everybody gets all wiggly in their shorts about the upcoming Scirocco (and the current R32), that they're really the same chassis as the TT with a different body.
Hard to slam the TT too much in that context.

<honorable mention: audi tt. too slow, too girly. but almost a vw.>

IMHO the Audi TT deserves a whole lot more than just honorable mention. Too slow? Indeed, the 180 is underpowered. But the 225 (1.8T) or the 250 (3.2) are sufficiently powered and very spirited from a driveability perspective. The overall design of the TT was cutting edge, critically acclaimedm and is destined to become a classic. The coupe is absolutely gorgeous. If that constitutes "girly", so be it.

Finally, the TT, from a historical design perspective, is very similar to the Mk1 Scirocco in terms of its emergence onto the automotive scene.
