Need opinions on the '80 Mk1 Indiana Red for sale

That car is a lot like mine (79 mk1). I don't post a lot here but here is my
02. Also, that car is about 60 miles from me and I have a good set of eyes
and a great camera. I will be going that way this weekend. Reply back if you
want me to look at it.

Mine had 108k when I bought it, sat in a garage the last 5 yrs and had been
repainted. Owner had passed on. I also found out later through the DOL that
it had been stolen and wrecked, and I'm the 3rd owner. I paid 3k. No rust,
even on a WA state car. I've had it 4 years. Everything seemed perfect when
I bought it. Tranny went at 120k, I had a used one put in because I could
afford it back then. I also replaced the struts (kyb) and the brakes with
all new parts. The 1.6 started to smoke at 125k. 79's have no cat. I was
living in Oregon then, you have to pass smog, so I got an 83 1.8 JH and
rebuilt it myself. I threw about 1500 into the motor, clutch, engine mounts,
exhaust, everything that was wrong, and it's a really cool car now (my daily
driver). I guess that I have about 6k in this car. The only thing that needs
work is the interior, and it's not that bad.

You really can't tell much about a car unless you know its history. The body
is the most important. When the mileage gets over 120k, be prepared to do
some work on it, and a bit of cussing. But, rocco's have a way of yanking
your chain if you happen to like them. It doesn't blow around in the wind,
it's quick, and it doesn't suck gas. It has to be raining really hard for it
to hydroplane. As long as I keep it waxed it looks great. The single wiper
sucks. I've put 11k on it since the rebuild, not one problem. Best part is
all the people I don't know coming up to me saying "that's a really cool
car". But, I have a garage, lots of tools, and enough time to keep a 27 year
old car on the road. If I did it right, we will live long and prosper. If I
didn't, it's way cooler than a Kia. You never know...

Run, don't walk... That car is easily worth $2300... This is the
type of car I would normally jump on, but with my future plans still
up in the air, no matter how hard I try I just can't think of a good
enough excuse to do something completely irrational. :D

I don't think you could go wrong picking that car up...

Later,

Mark.
