Autocad

Does anyone have suggestions for software in which I can draw out some ideas 
for my project car?
I have minimal Autocad training on an old version (circa 1990 and 1996).  
Even better, does anyone have a cad file with a 16V Scirocco already drawn 
out, that I could modify as necessary?  I'm looking for something that will 
allow me to "test fit" ideas and check measurements before committing 
materials and man hours.
Computing power isn't a concern as I have a new AMD 64 FX-60 computer 
enroute!  Maybe my old Dell Inspiron will become the car's new brain.  Of 
course, Windows will have to go.  That would be like giving the car a 
lobotomy.  The new computer isn't going in the car.  I'm afraid it would 
start up and say "Hello, Dave." or  "What are you doing, Dave?" or start 
singing  "Daisy, Daisy Give me your answer do...."
