Trouble starting

See, my 16V would not start at all when sitting, even in moderate weather,
without the cold start valve working. In my case, the car had been at a
shop, and the mechanic had switched the plug on the cold start valve with
another nearby two prong device, and swapping the wiring back cured the
problem, but I figured it out after finding that the cold start valve was
not spraying at all.
And agreed, jumpering the fuel pump relay is useful method to help with
diagnosis. Especially on a 16V, there are lots of things that could make it
misbehave, but the fact that it starts well warm may rule out some things
at least. So that's a good thing.
