Brake Failure (In garage not on the street)

This sounds more like 2" of CV play and something sticking in the tranny than brake failure.

1. Brakes don't fail 'on', especially where they were just 'off'. There is the odd rear caliper freezing with the e-brake on, but
that generally happens when the car is outdoors for a long period of time, with the handbrake engaged the entire time.
2. If a caliper was actually gripping a rotor, you would get absolutely no motion (especially not 2"). There simply is not that
much (0) play between the caliper carrier / brake rotor / wheel.

I suspect possibly something in the tranny. It may have actually been in gear (unlikely I know), perhaps internally, as it rolled
just fine with the starter. Had it actually been brakes, it should have been hard to move regardless of power source (you /
starter).
