I had that happen to me. I was driving a '31 Chevrolet (not equipped 
with seat belts obviously) and stood on the brakes when a cab went 
through a red light. I didn't realize that I had hit my head until that 
evening when I found flecks of dried blood from a cut on the top of my 
head.  It just goes to show that with the combination of adrenalin, 
impact, etc., you can suffer an injury without realizing it right away.
