Passat b4 transmissions..

I have a 95 Passat VR6 w/Auto. I bought it from my neighbor and he was the
original owner. I recall he had a tranny problem that required a complete
replacement, under warranty. No problems since, but I notice when I drive,
that you must use "more pedal" to get the car to move that most other cars.
Along with that, the car does not coast very well, you can wait longer
before lifting the gas pedal when slowing down. This is the only B4 auto
that I've driven, so I have no comparison. The manual says the tranny oil
never needs changeing, but I don't like that. I have yet to change the oil,
but I'm thinking about it to see if it makes a difference. Anyone else?

Subject: OT: Passat b4 transmissions..

So it word has gotten out around work that I am a vw guy. One of the
teachers (I work in a school) has a 96 passat with the dreaded Auto
transmission. She thinks it needs some work.
I am aware that that era passat has a lot of issues with the
transmission, but what can you tell me about it? Does she just need
to have the fluid changed regularly to prevent any problems? Or does
it likely need some special attention?

TIA
