Subject: New to the list (or - Dan Bubb is the Man!)

Greetings List!

I've been reading for a few weeks now and I thought it was time to
introduce myself. My name is Adam and it's my '81 that Dan Bubb has
taken on as his one of his many projects! Hooray Dan!

A little background: Almost a year ago, with little knowledge, but a
great love for Sciroccos I bought (sight unseen) a rust free Arizona car
that I thought was a solid base for a project. And it was, but I had no
idea what I was getting myself into. Relying on my mechanics' advice and
judgement I started the restoration.

Things went along fairly smoothly for a while (with the typical hiccups
that I expected)...new engine, new paint, custom interior (not yet
installed)...until they got to the wiring. I knew going into it that the
car had had an electrical fire and needed to be rewired, but they kept
telling me that they could handle it. So after months of searching, I
found the harnesses I needed at a salvage yard. That was back in May and
I thought everything was good to go and I'd be driving it anyday. The
short story is that the mechanics backed out on completing the job.
Those Jack-Bags! (That's my new word and I'm promoting it's use...try it
out!)

I was at a total loss as to what to do, so I turned to Mr. Paul Grimes
for help (who had helped me find the car to begin with after he decided
not to sell me his beautiful mk1). He put me in touch with Dan, who
thankfully, agreed to take the job. Dan then enlisted Kirsten the
funk-soul-kitty to refurbish and route the wiring harnesses. I was gonna
take the car back to the jack-bags after that, but Dan-the-man came
through for me again and agreed to finish the rest of the assembly for
me! Damn, am I happy about that! Dan has found so many things that the
Jack-bags missed and (Dan, I hope you don't mind me saying this) at a
fraction of the cost the jack-bags would have charged me.

So, once again, Hooray Dan! Hooray Kirsten! With a little luck, a few
more weeks and I'll finally be able to drive my bad-ass Scirocco.

BTW, I've named my car Anvil (a story for another day) and although I
haven't been very good at documenting the progress, if you're interested
you can see some pictures on Photobucket (the first 3 pics are of the
mk1 that I had back in college, the rest are of Anvil).
