What heater pipe to use with JH/ABA Swap?

Jeff,

I thought I could answer your question, and even provide a picture of
what I did, but the ABA/JH combo I built a couple of years ago (now on
my shop floor) has had the coolant pipe stripped off it... :(

I know I used the new "universal" pipe - the only one that the
dealership carries these days (non forked). I also remember not
having the old-style inline switch installed, and buying a new "peace
pipe" coolant hose... When I tried piecing the parts together it
looks like I used the single outlet coolant flange (side of head), and
ran the peace-pipe off of it into the heater valve. The heater core
return hose mated up to the metal coolant pipe.

It doesn't look right to me though... The setup I described has no
coolant flow out of the side of the head if the heater valve is
closed. Anyone know if this is a no-no? (ie: is there another
coolant return path to the pump other than from the port on the side
of the head that I'm not thinking of?)

I'm afraid I just muddied the water here rather than answering your
question, but I'm curious to find the answer as well... I'll try
looking at my parts pile again to see if I can unstick my memory
(which sucks...).

Later,

Mark.
