How to get Mk1 fenders off?



OK, I did not use a propane torch, but have 95% of the fender flange visible with the exception of what resides up near the antennae hole. The fender against the (vertical) body/door will not move at all. I have the top of the fender separated and moving freely with the exception of at the directional and where the fender meets the body. I can see body sealer in between the fender panel and the vertical portion of the body. I don't see where a torch would help there.

I used a propane torch to heat the undercoating, and then scraped it off with a 
putty knife. But like Daun said, you really have to be careful about flames.
 
 Once you get most of the undercoating out of the way, use the putty knife in 
the seams to separate the panel from the body. Heat up the putty knife itself 
with the torch, and it becomes the proverbial "knife through butter". Be 
patient, and you can get it off without damaging it.

Aside from the obvious screws on the top and front of the fender there
are at least 3 on the back and one on the bottom of the rear part of
the fender. (ETKA lists 26 screws for a MK II fender! No listing for
MK I. )
Just pulling on the fender won't cut it. It'll be all bent by the time
you get it off.
What has worked for me is to cut the undercoating/glue away from the
flange as much as possible then pry the flange up a little bit at a
time being careful not to bend it too much.
Haven't tried heating it, that might be a good addition, but suspect
you'll still need to cut the crap back as much as possible at the edge
of the flange.
