16v fuel pumping woes

engine compartment.

i originally thought it was the big metal cylinder just behind the  
fuel dist., but cathy b. says (i think) that that is the fuel filter.

but definitely the sound came from driver's side, engine compartment.

and, it only lasted for a few seconds after turning the key to 'ON'
