Lets talk about voltage.

OK so this is going to sound absolutly simple, but have you enough tension on the belt? they can get loose or become worn over time thus creating more slack and less contact with the alternator puley...also checking the brushes(voltage regulator) as those do wear out over time too......they can look like this on our 8v alternators:
