That is inaccurate information; you need a Passport to properly cross the
border now (US/Canada border controls do not have to let you in with only
the driver license), in most cases they may, but since 9/11 its has been
harder.

All sorts of criminals cross between the US and Canada daily because all
they need is a driver's license.
