Re: Mk1 Hatch filling with water

I was having the same problem with my mk2 rocco. Turned out it was just a rubber gasket that goes around the lock on the hatch. :(

Ron, I found that there are 2 plastic plugs along the sides of the rain gutter of the rear hatch. I sealed them by welding small tabs of metal.
I did that 2 years ago and no more leaks!
Try silicone and see if that helps.
Good luck!

Subject: Mk1 Hatch filling with water

Hey All:

My old Mk1 hatch is filling with water and beginning to rust along the outside rear. This is where two pieces of sheetmetal are joined inside the hatch. Question is, what's the path for the water to get there? Via the glass gasket or the hatch seal where it closes against the car?

Thx,

Ron
