If it is loose, it's behavior may be iratic.  I don't know what happens if
it is too tight.  It only takes 18lbs, but apparently it must be right at
18lbs to work properly...

My job of stating the obvious is done...  :)

Can anybody tell me what happens to the behavior of a 16v motor when the
knock sensor fails or is torqued improperly?

I'm trying to do a "blind" comparison..
