I think I just found the manual U-Link I've been looking for. It has "Made In W. Germany" on it and "53L" and it was bolted to a manual A1 rack. Whatcha think?
good luck. part number you're looking for is 531-419-951-B. it's only found on german rabbits (77-80), mki jettas (80-84), and mk2 sciroccos w/ manual steering. i now have a collection of shorter ones from pulling them from cars that "looked" longer. serious PITA.
