+Some rust, appears to be mostly surface, in the engine
bay.

From what I can see, there's nothing there that is anything
more than minor surface rust. I see nothing structural.

I

the rust
(like on my current car, where the rear axle is in danger

off)

You will simply NOT be able to drive an Mk 1 in salt. Find
a winter car in addition to the Mk 1. Otherwise, this one
will quickly end up like your current one underneath. The
rear axle mounts are usually the worst hit.

but not some pristine time capsule car that I will
overpay for. I want a project but not something that will require a
complete
overhaul.

Is this it?

Looks that way. A drivable project.

From what I see, it needs some cosmetic work, but looks
pretty solid. And wow.... it's got the duckbill spoiler
that's always missing. Oh, and the louvers you can drop
off to me on your way home. I'm semi-actively searching
for a set. :p

P.S. Kudos if you actually read all that.

Awww, it wasn't that much. :p

So what are you waiting for? Buy it already!
