Re: Possible issues with towing a scirocco in neutral?

with the tranny in neutral and the clutch out, the input shaft cant spin, which may starve some of the needle bearings of fluid if you tow for long periods. to prevent this, you need to somehow spin the input shaft every once in a while. this can be done by either letting it idle in neutral or by rolling the car with the clutch in and tranny in gear. in a pinch, i've towed long distances with the tranny in 5th, clutch out, and the (non-running) engine free-spinning (i yanked the plugs and put foam over the holes).

Even though we will be employing his ingenious kickass superfuckingfragalistic tow dollymajigger the twins rear wheels still have to ride on the ground and as a result the rear transmission will be freewheeling in neutral all the way up there.

I have driven the car pretty extensively with just the front engine running and so far have had no issues.

I can't see why the neutral tow would do any more damage than normal driving but then again I can't remember to take the fucking trash out....

Anybody have some theories or better yet real world experience?
