It can.

As the fuel pump wears the bearings, it draws more and more current, sometimes frying the wiring to the pump, and normally cooking the relay.  This happens so gradually that the fuse will not normally blow.  BTDT, didn't buy the T-shirt cuz I had to buy a much more expensive fuel pump...

G/L, and do something with it soon, NO CAR FIRES!
