Axle flange wear question

Okay, I'm cheating, this is on an A2 Jetta, with very modified suspension.
This is the kid's car on bags.

Anyway, he's replacing an axle, and when he pulled the inner end of the
axle off the flange, there was a nice stream of gear oil, and there is
visible wear on the middle of the flange from the axle, and the cap that
should be there isn't. (It's not leaking from around the outside as per
traditional "leaky seals", it's inside the inner CV area). So what would
cause that sort of wear, and is there any way to correct it? We're
suspecting it's due to the odd angles te airbags put on the driveline, but
has anyone seen wear up in there before? Suggestions to correct it would be
appreciated, I doubt that going back to a stock suspension is in the cards
though.

Thanks, cathy
