Carbon Fiber Hoods

I'm in a very irksome situation. As some of you here may remember from
my prior posts, my Scirocco was "sandwiched" in January 2002. The car
was totaled, salvaged, and restored. This resto included 100% new paint
(black, as was original color), which was basically nice except for a
few areas - some slight "orange peeling", and poor coverage of front US
style bumper (bumper trim was misaligned at time of painting, when
strightened it revealed a missed portion). In addition, some minor rust
spots had been treated prior to priming, and those spots, albeit small
and in inconspicuous places, have expanded under the paint to form
raised blobs. I had always meant to take the car back to the bodyshop to
see if they'd have a look, but for whatever reason never got around to
it. Well as it turns out, this summer I've developed a new paint
problem with my hood, as as Murphy's Law would dictate, the shop is no
longer in business.

The symptons of the hood paint problem - slight fading of the paint in a
few areas, which have grown in size over the summer, and developed into
a "rotting" of the enamel... it's starting to look just awful. Like the
paint has formed tiny little bubbles, which have burst and flaked off.
Nasty. The rest of the car's paint has been quite stable (aside from
aforementioned rust-treated spots), but I have a bad feeling that it's
only a matter of time...

At any rate, I'm trying to decide if I should have the hood repainted,
or if I ought to go with a Carbon Fiber hood. Either way wont be cheap,
but I wanted feeback from those who have gone the CF hood route.

Or option 3, I could take a stab at painting the hood myself - shit, I
can't make it look any worse! I'm pretty artistic, though I'd need to
get a sprayer...

Now accepting input...
