Starter options?

hey jim...well in my 75 rabbit 16v I had an old mk1 rabbit Diesel
starter...they are huge and heavy (and require different bolts IIRC ) but
I could walk my rabbit up a hill on the starter (and I did on several
occasions)..very beefy but it draws some serious juice too...nice thing is
you keep your eyes peeled at the wreckers for a diesel rabbit and chances
are you can score one cheap...also the late mk2 and mk3 TD's had a
smaller, but with special gear drive, it'll crank the motor like crazy and
yet be light and not require nearly as much juice to crank the 16V with.
I prefer this setup, although finding these starters (and they aren't
cheap) is usually a biatch...but you figure you use euro bumpers to shave
weight, relocate the batttery to the trunk to shift weight and then what
are you going to do, negate a part of that by putting a huge heavy starter
on the front of your car, or keep with the trend and use a smaller lighter
and more power one.
