No Reverse??

Hey all!

My mom is looking at a VW that says it has no reverse.  It's a 97 Jetta so
it has the 020 trans and looks like the linkage has been messed with so
maybe just an adjustment???

My question is to all the tranny experts out there.  Is there a way that the
020 tranny can drop reverse and still be fine in all the other gears as they
said it runs and drives fine without reverse??
