OT- passat bumper skin removal

well the passat is a bit different than the typical scirocco stuff.
i can easily see behind the steel of the passat bumper. i tried 
unbolting/removing the steel portion and had no luck. i think i would have 
to remove the entire front subframe to get the bumper loose. ugh.
