Rant: Head Bolts



Bolts should accept design torque, even if they are bottomed out. (torque is torque)
Either the bolt (that broke) or the torquing process was flawed.

  more times the holes in the block.  Breaking bolts is quite common if
  those holes aren't spotless...if any oil is in there, you'll hydraulicly
  lock the bolt as you turn it down (trying to compress the oil in the
  hole), breaking the bolt.
