help...Wiring up a motronic engine WTF!

ok, I have both wiring diagrams and I still can't do this...my 2.0L 16V is
out of a 92 GTI, so the engine wiring harness terminates in the raintray
with 2 6 pronged plugs... a grey one and a black one...near as I can tell
of the 6 wires on the black plug only one escapes me.
Its red with a yellow stripe and in the 92 GTI wiring diagram it went to
the fuel pump relay...most likely to provide a signal from the ECU to the
relay to keep the fuel pump running...anybody have a different
interpretation?
Anywho, on the 83 Jetta wiring harness I can't for the life of me figure
out how to use this where or where it should go...is there a similar wire
in the jetta harness that provided the same function for the CIS Basic set
up?
I tried figuring out what is going on in the relay from the jetta wiring
diagram but it doesn't make sense.
Has anybody here done this...a Motronic CIS-E 16V into a CIS Basic (non
02) fuse panel?
I can't even use my 75 Rabbit as a template because it was carbed and the
fuel pump relay was grafted on and hence not integrated with the fuse
panel like it is on my jetta.
Please help...I'm getting desperate here...basically it sounds like the
fuel pump is not getting a signal to keep running from the new ECU.
In the Bentley it says that if all is wired properly, bridging terminals
12 and 35 of the ecu harness should cause the fuel pump to run, while the
ignition is on (and connector 12 is the aforementioned red wire with a
yellow stripe which I can't figure out.
I mean there are only 12 wires in total (3 are for the diagnostic test
connectors, one is for the 02 sensor heater, 1 for the MFA...that leaves 8
that must have a home...can anybody list where these stupid F-ing things
went in their conversion
I was thinking more about this and do you guys think the proper way to do
this, short of a CE2 harness, would be to get a mk2 fuel pump relay and a
"add on" type relay block to wire it up and just remove the connections
from the mk1 relay?

confused and frustrated
