New ETKA and the nasty Hardlock error

   because, as for now, we are only updating via the internet. they last 
cd-rom version of the etka was 569, though at work we are running update 
571 or 572. each update consists of about a 3Mb packet. they're going to 
continue running the etka until the new system comes out (no eta as of 
yet - good 'ol vw). what i've heard of the new system is that it is 
completely web-based. this would dovetail nicely with the fact that 
orders, claims, etc. must be now entered via the internet.
   as for the update, i believe that lexcomm probably knows about the 
.dll hack. for this reason, i think they've programmed into the updates 
a checksum routine for the .dll and if it's incorrect, the update will 
not install and your etka will need to be reinstalled. i'm currently 
trying to find a work-around for that.

   it is still the system in use by the dealerships. they are no longer 
producing the cd's, however, we still need to update until we get the 
new system up and running (if they don't drag their feet forever).
