Subject: Re: HELP! computer gurus...

Hi All,

Good suggestions have been supplied by all but there is one consideration
that I have yet to see anyone address.

NTFS file system.

With all the disk swapping and/or boot disk advice one thing you have to
consider is if your hard drive is formatted in NTFS (the default file
system for Windows NT, 2K, and XP).
The boot disk option will not work if it's not a special DOS/9X disk w/
NTFS drivers. There is a way to make a 2k/XP boot disk but you need to
copy files from your hard drive to make it work, and that doesn't seem to
be an option here.
If you are going to try to put the disk into another machine to read it,
it will have to be at least 2k/XP machine (this SHOULD work w/ 2K but
every NT based NTFS file system is a little different and a newer version
can read all the previous versions, but a previous version [2k] cannot
necessarily read a newer version [XP]) and not a Windows 9X/ME machine.

If the culprit is the Master Boot Record you may be able to boot the
machine with the XP installation CD and do some rather arcane stuff w/
the "Command Console" option but it is not a procedure I care to try
to stuff into an email ATM.

Post back about where this "no disk found" is during the boot procedure as
was suggested earlier in the thread and I'm sure one of us will be able to
help you!

G/L!!!!!!

Tim
