16v suddenly cranks slow, won't start

I did the "Free the Electrons World Tour #2" on my 16V in the fall ,
thinking it would solve all that is wrong in the world (since another lister
noted a crappy ground connection), heck, I even got a new bolt for the "PITA
under the airbox" ground. Turn the key, and still nada. It turned out to be
a wire strap on the starter, (field winding strap?) and a starter rebuild
fixed it.
The guy who rebuilt it descibed it as "crispy" IIRC. Perhaps yours is
getting frayed, and you can catch it before the toasty condition occurs. Oh,
if you go there, the illustration in the Bentley may not match your starter
terminal locations.
Cathy, feeling like the queen of the "no-start"
