forced to unload the scirocco, what next?

I have a '96 gti, and love it(but not as much as I love my scirocco).
Lotsa power. Great for the 50 mile commute on rt. 80 twice a day. Gas can
be a bit expensive though. One problem I've heard, and seem to be
experiencing myself is the second gear syncro. I've seen quite a few posts
on vortex about it, and it spreads across all the early vr6's and the v6
audi trannies. It starts grinding when tring to shift into second from
first, even when your taking it easy. Maybe someone here knows more than I
do about it, and can explain the problem better. I'd also consider going
over the coil pack w/ epoxy if it hasn't been already. Thay crack, and then
arc all over the place making the car run like crap.
