Opinion on Poly Stut Bearings...

ok, I've had these in both my 75 Rabbit and now my 83 jetta...in both
cases I believe these are the ONLY way to go if you have a stiff and low
suspension...sure they transmit a bit more noise through the chassis but
they do not wear out like the conventional ones either...With my koni
red's and Eibach sportlines (a conbination I would NEVER recommend) my new
Febi strut bearings lasted less than 2000 kms. Whereas I had 15000 kms on
my poly ones with NO signs of destruction...bascially as I have seen it...
the rubber insert gets pounded into submission by the stiffer spring and
shock and then you get excess play and the strut will rattle over bumps.
Not fun. Thing is, I drive on the crappiest inner city roads in Toronto
and on the crappiest stretches of highway...MAJOR potholes, street car
tracks and other crap...so I kill strut bearings in a hurry.
That said, with my new setup with the poly upper strut bearings and old
skool neuspeed sports and the koni red's I find the ride quite nice and
the strut bearings don't add any new NVH to the equation.
In short, I love em and recommend them to anyone who does not want to
change their strut bearings ever again...with a new set of Bilsteins and
say some H&R springs I would be confident that such a setup would take
years of abuse without any problems.
