rust on block surfaces during rebuild?



I would just use the scotch brite, esp. if it did not take more than 5 minutes 
to clean up...  You might use some oil on the pad, as that will make it more 
gentle.  Perhaps then the fella at the machine shop would be a bit more 
accepting?  :-)
