Need suggestions, maybe parts

My wifes 86 automatic fried about six weeks ago and I finally took some time 
yesterday to explore the problem. Everything behind the fire wall is intact. 
There is basicaly one wire that runs from the neg battery post up to the 
computer, through the computer and then out to the intake manifold. It is 
totally melted as is the puter plug and probably inside the puter. I was 
thinking of finding another Jetronic and a good plug and just splicing it in 
rather than trying to fool with a whole new harness.
