Buying a dismantled block and head - what contents are critical?

Using 3A pistons and rods with a JH crank will reduce your displacment to
1790cc!!! You don't want to do that ;^)
But I guess you already knew that and were going to make up the difference
with boost. OH yeah!
If my calculations are correct putting the JH crank in the 3A short block
will net you a CR of 7.2:1. About right if you're the ex-Drake salesman, but
probably too low for modern engine control. Plus, you loose the all
important squish area.
Stacking head gaskets will also loose the squish area even though lots of
people do it and still get good results. It's just not optimum.
I've heard you can mill out the bowl in an ABA piston to lower the CR to
9.2. Don't know if that applies to 3A pistons or not, but you want to keep
the perimeter of the piston crown at the stock height to promote turbulence
in the combustion chamber.
Anyway, that's my plan.
Dan
